The story of ICT Strypes: strengths combined
Strypes started small: founded in 2008 as a Bulgarian startup delivering IT services and software to a small list of clients. But even in those early days it had a clear differentiator with its Nearsurance model, putting trained business analysts onsite with the client and developers in an outsourced center of excellence. These strengths gained the attention of Dutch technologists ICT Group, which acquired Strypes in 2014 … and brought Nearsurance benefits to a broader audience.
With a decade-plus of growth and multiple offices in both Bulgaria and the Netherlands, the company is now a powerhouse of over 700+ professionals, trusted by industry leaders that define the global economy – from agricultural players that secure food supplies to fabrication tech that enables the world’s chipmakers. But it retains the spirit of its early days: a desire to understand client challenges in depth and develop solutions that answer them fully. It’s more than a software development partner – it’s a business partner. And its drive for diversity has led Strypes to make acquisitions of its own, bringing new capabilities into the mix – two standouts being Kodar and Up2 Technology.
Kodar: excellence in cross-sector coding
Kodar’s origins almost predate the web. Founded in 1996 as a family business in Plovdiv – Kodar is an abbreviation of the first letters of that family’s forenames – it initially performed back office functions, developing and maintaining systems and software for companies in finance, insurance, education, transport and more. Within a few years, it had grown to 30 people, attracting clients beyond Bulgaria – Belgium, the Netherlands, and even the USA.
One of those clients was Strypes. The two companies developed an effective working relationship, sharing responsibilities on projects for many clients – so effective that it made sense to take the next step and merge, with Strypes acquiring Kodar in 2019. Kodar’s team, now a department at ICT Strypes consists of 100+ professionals with expertise in cloud, SaaS, and web technologies.
Up2 Technology: maximizing solutions in mobility
Keeping business on the move – worldwide
From its start in 2006, Up2 Technology has focused on what floats, flies, or rolls: the vehicles and transport infrastructure that connect the world’s supply chains. From railroad operations to medical distribution, the team saw how logistics could be streamlined and improved with technology – and developed the software and services to make it happen. Over the next decade the company also developed a distinct culture: flat hierarchies, multi-role job descriptions, and a workforce with an unusually broad background. Much like its later partner Strypes.
By the time of the acquisition in 2019, Up2 Technology had completed over 500 projects and resolved 50,000 incidents across its client base. It was recognized as a leader in the mobility space, and transport was an area where Strypes wanted to expand its capabilities – making the two companies a natural match. Today, the Up2 team, now a department at ICT Strypes, continues to turn mobile assets into sources of competitive advantage … for a list of clients that just keeps growing.
The merger: new opportunities made real
You’ll see the commonalities here. All three companies focused on innovative approaches to client problems; each had built a reputation for excellence. And both Kodar and Up2 enjoyed long relationships with Strypes as independent companies, working together on major projects across Europe. In brief, the three were already a team.
And that made the decision to merge a logical one. Each company brought new expertise to the ICT brand – and new client opportunities, too. Many of the people knew each other, meaning the cultural fit was strong from the start. And across a larger portfolio of clients, the combined group could take on bigger and broader projects, offering more and more value to Europe’s companies.
